My Plymouth: with Scott, IT Manager

Vispring found home in Plymouth in the 1970s and has been proud to be based in this beautiful part of the UK since then. Our team is at the heart of what we do; many of us have lived in Plymouth, Devon, our whole lives. We’ll sit down with some of them to discuss what Plymouth means to them. This week we’re joined by Scott, Vispring’s IT Manager.
FIRSTLY, TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHAT YOU DO AT VISPRING
I’m Scott, IT Manager for Vispring; I ensure all areas of the business are suitably covered in terms of systems and processes to help us give the best service and support as Vispring grows year on year. I’ve been here for around 17 years, so I have seen big technological shifts during this time! At home, I am a husband, father to two boys, and owner of two rescue German Shepherds that keep me on my toes!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN DEVON?
I actually live in Cornwall! The beauty of Vispring being in Plymouth is that we are so close to many beautiful sites in and around the area. Whilst I only live 5 miles from the office, I live in a Cornish town called Torpoint, where I grew up. I’m connected to Devon via a ferry that crosses the half-mile section of the river Tamar separating us from Plymouth, it’s quite unique to be able to say the traffic delay on the way to work was due to a Ship or Submarine!
WE ARE PROUD TO BE BASED HERE IN PLYMOUTH, DEVON. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY?
Easily close to beautiful sights and scenery in the local areas, within an hour’s radius of Plymouth, you can find lots of places to visit, being multiple beautiful coasts, moorland walks, or activity locations for the kids.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL WEEKEND IN PLYMOUTH?
My ideal weekend would be breakfast at Royal William Yard, which is a great food and activity location for Plymouth, then a walk around the Hoe where the kids can play on their skateboards and get ice cream, topped off with a decent BBQ at home!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE LOCAL ACTIVITY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?
Almost every weekend, you will find my family and me out for dog walks, coastal walks, or riding our bikes with the kids on and around the Devon or Cornish coast.
WHAT ACTIVITY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO A FIRST-TIME VISITOR TO PLYMOUTH?
For a first-time visitor, I’d fully recommend taking the Cremyll ferry to Mount Edgecombe for some great sights of Plymouth and the breakwater, then on return, book a tour of the Plymouth Gin distillery, it gives you some great insights into the history of the brand, and there’s also a cocktail when you finish!
ANY SPECIAL PLACE YOU WOULD SEND THEM FOR DINNER?
I’d recommend Positanos for a traditional Italian and Dunya for a pre-music or theatre Turkish meal. Or Captain Jaspers for a burger or half-yard hotdog after a night at the Plymouth Motorbike nights.
FINALLY, THIS BEAUTIFUL PLACE IS YOUR HOME; WHAT SIGNIFIES ‘HOME’ TO YOU?
It’s got to be seeing my kids play on the Hoe on their skateboards or running around the multiple country parks, there are so many open and fresh air locations you can escape to whenever you need to just ‘breath’.
