At Vispring we believe that the best support and true luxurious comfort can never be rushed, and although each luxury handmade mattress may take longer to make, we know this is the best way to do it. With over 120 years of expertise, our craftsmen and women use tried and tested skills to hand craft the finest sleep.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT MATTRESS
Vispring’s handmade beds offer a huge range of options – from different fillings to multiple layers of handmade springs. And then there’s the choice of different mattress tensions too. These simple steps will help find the right one for you.
TEST THEM ALL OUT
Nothing beats going in store and trying out our beds for yourself – bounce, squish and roll on as many as you like. Try a lot of different combinations too (spring tension, filling, size) and work out what’s best for you.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Finding the best bed for you doesn’t happen instantly. So there’s no need to rush. Test each bed for at least 10 minutes (with your partner, if you share). Try and get into your normal sleeping position and turn it over a couple of times to see if it feels right.
CHECK THE SUPPORT
Vispring beds come in four different spring tensions – soft, medium, firm and extra firm. But we can combine two tensions for each side of your bed. Ideal for when you and your partner are different statures.
Here’s a quick guide to finding the right spring tension.
Up to 70kg (154lbs): Soft
70-102kg (154-225lbs): Medium
102-127kg (225-280lbs): Firm
Above 127kg (280lbs): Extra Firm
TOO SOFT
Your spine will bow downwards and cause pressure around your hips. A good test is to see if you can slide your hand beneath your back – if not, it’s too soft.
TOO FIRM
If your spine bows upwards and there’s pressure around your shoulders and knees, the mattress is too firm. In this case, your hand will easily slide between the mattress and the hollow of your back.
JUST RIGHT
Your spine should be straight and your whole body should feel evenly supported.
MEASURE YOUR ROOM
Getting the biggest bed that can fit in your room means more space to rest and less sleep disturbance. So, grab the measuring tape and work out exactly what you can fit in your room.
DECISION TIME
You spend a third of your life in bed. And a good night’s sleep will contribute to your well-being in the long run. So look at your bed purchase as a worthwhile investment.
We always recommend trying the mattresses in-store before making your final choice, however, an easy way to find the best tension for you is by following our weight guide, you can find it here: https://www.vispring.com/en-au/bed-buying-guide/
If you are a side sleeper you may be looking for softer mattresses that allow your shoulder to sink in, however, you must ensure your mattress effectively supports your entire body. To ensure you find the perfect mattress that provides you with the optimum level of support, we recommend you visit one of our authorised retailers, where you can get professional advice from a Vispring bed expert.
That is a common misconception. If you suffer from a bad back, you need to find the mattress that provides the correct support and comfort. To ensure you find the perfect mattress that provides you with the optimum level of support, we recommend you visit one of our authorised retailers, where you can get professional advice from a Vispring bed expert.
Vispring luxury mattresses are available in four spring tensions to suit individual needs. If one tension does not suit both yourself and your partner, a combination mattress might be perfect for you (available in 150cm and larger). A combination mattress allows you to have two different tensions, for example, one side medium and the other side firm. If there is a bigger difference in tension preferences, a zip and link mattress could be better suited. This would allow you to zip together two smaller mattresses in different tensions, for example, soft and extra firm.
If you ask our Vispring customers, many will agree with us that it is one of the most important investments you can make. Investing in sleep is investing in your health and well-being, and while the initial cost of a high-quality mattress may seem high, it is useful to consider the Cost Per Use (CPU). Your Vispring mattress will last for years, or with the right care, decades to come so the cost for each great night’s sleep will be worth every penny.
We are proud to produce the highest quality products and to not be part of the fast furniture trend. Our mattresses are all handmade by a team of artisan bedmakers in our Plymouth workshop in the UK and are sold by over 500 retailers around the world.
At Vispring we are proud of the craftsmanship and high-quality natural materials we use in our mattresses. That is why we offer a 30-Year Guarantee, providing you with extra security against structural failure, faulty workmanship and defective components.
Vispring luxury mattresses are built to last, but the lifetime of your Vispring depends on several factors. Ensuring you take proper care of your mattress will extend its life, but ultimately, comfort is subjective and only you will know when it is time for a new mattress.
We believe that pocket spring mattresses are the best choice for many reasons. The individual pocketed springs in the Vispring mattresses, move independently from each other which allows for much better support and comfort. The construction of the pocket sprung mattress also means that the movement is restricted, so it is a great choice for couples as there is less chance that you will wake each other during the night.
In general, the more pocket springs that are contained within a mattress, the more supportive it will be. A higher spring count offers more contact points with your body and will better contour your shape. For these reasons, all Vispring mattresses are manufactured with an optimal balance between spring count and filling quantity – ensuring the best sleep experience.
In an open coil mattress, the spring coils that form the mattress all move together as one unit, so if you are sleeping next to someone and they move frequently during the night, you may feel them move too. Vispring’s luxury pocket sprung mattresses are made with individual Vanadium steel springs that are encased in fabric pockets that are nested together in a honeycomb formation. This enables each spring to move more independently from the other springs, which can create a more supportive sleep experience and reduce movement of the mattress when you or your partner move during sleep.
Several factors play in when comparing mattresses; is the other mattress filled with mini-springs instead of full-height springs? Is it mass-produced and not handmade? Is it imported and not made in the UK? We highly recommend speaking to a bed specialist at your local Vispring retailer. Yes, you can put a Vispring mattress on your existing bed base if it is in good condition. If you have a slatted base, you must ensure that the slats are no more than 7.5cm (3”) apart.

Vispring mattresses do not have any allergy certification. However, most of the materials we use in our beds are naturally hypoallergenic. While we cannot rule out allergic reactions that may occur due to the natural fillings used, we can reassure you that you will not be sleeping on a surface containing any harsh chemicals or toxins.
Vispring mattresses are traditionally hand-made without the need to use any adhesives or solvents in the manufacturing process. In addition, the mattress ‘ticking’ (fabric) used on the sleep surface is treated with a chemical-free, bio-based fire retardant called M-Pure.
